Castings
- All road wheel styles have centres cast in aluminium alloy CC601-T6 using the gravity, or low pressure casting processes. All castings are heat treated to T6 temper.
Forgings
- Some Simmons Option 3 Race wheels feature centres forged from 6061 alloy, heat treated to full hard T6 temper, then billet machined for maximum strength with minimum weight
Rim Sections
- All Simmons rim sections are spun from high tensile alloy #6061, heat treated during manufacture to full hard T6 temper.
- Most Simmons wheels intended for road use now use 6mm thick alloy for outer rim sections, instead of 5mm formerly used, to improve rims’ resistance to impact damage.
- 4mm or 5mm alloy is used for inner rim sections, depending on vehicle weight. All rims feature safety humps
- Racing wheels above club level specifications are generally fitted with 4mm rim sections.
- Simmons exclusive rim manufacturing process, developed in 1999, ensures rim sections of closely controlled thickness with “industry best” dimensional accuracy and roundness.
- All outer rim sections are highly polished alloy.
- The inner rim section is natural matt grey finish, characteristic of heat treated aluminium.
Fasteners
- All road, and some race wheels are assembled with 8mm, 12 point ,chromed, high tensile bolts
- Full race spec wheels are assembled with 1/4” (6.35 mm), 12 point bolts.
Sealants
- Silicone sealant (non acidic cure) is used to seal the joint between the two rim sections. Please note that care must be taken to avoid damaging the seals when fitting and removing tyres.
Finishes
Wheel centre finishes
- Road Wheels - Powder coat primer, 2 pack colour coat, 2 pack clear coat.
- Race wheels - Etch Primes, 2 pack colour coat.
Finishes for Rims
- All outer rims are highly polished alloy.
- All inner rims are in natural grey aluminium finish characteristic of heat treated alloy.
